The Chicago Tribune (5/15, Black, Channick) reports, “After pit bull advocates cried foul, Highland Park officials backed off a proposal to ban the breed from city limits while they research the issue for discussion in June. Mayor Michael Belsky proposed the pit bull prohibition this month after a dog attacked a 14-year-old girl.” The Tribune notes that “elsewhere, officials have found it very difficult to broach the subject of breed-specific legislation, meeting strong opposition from organizations including the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the American Kennel Club.”
